What Is A Website?Let's Start With The Basics. You need to have a good understanding of what a website is before you can actually build your own website. This is what I will do my best to explain first. The name of your website is what is known as the Domain Name. This is also known as your web address (www.yourwebsite.com). The information that you compile (your webpages) is kept on a server somewhere out there in cyber space. Where it is kept is what is referred to as the webhost. They are hosting your domain (your website). There are several webhosting services you can use. Many will have a search tool on thier home page for you to search for an available name for your website. You might have to get a little creative to get a name you like. Most common sense website names won't be available. Setting up your hosting account is one of the first steps to building your own website.
